The way you access appointments for health needs is changing. We have invested in training and support for our traditional reception staff to become "Care Navigators".
As well as this, there are a number of services and schemes locally that may be quicker and more appropriate for certain patient conditions, such as Minor Ailments, Minor Eye Conditions, Physiotherapy, Wellbeing and many others. Some needs may be social, welfare or support; as such, our Care Navigators are fully trained to advise on the wide variety of local schemes and services to offer assistance & choice for you.
There are also a wide variety of trained health professionals working in this practice and out in the community, that may not be a GP. Care Navigators are here to assist you in making an informed decision about which health professional or service you would like to see and which would best meet your needs.
Our fully trained reception team (Care Navigators) will ask for your symptoms when making an appointment:
üTo help us find an appointment that best meets your needs
üTo spot any urgent signs and symptoms
üTo allow the doctor or nurse to be fully prepared for your arrival
Please indicate to the receptionist if your reason for booking is of a sensitive or personal nature.
You can write this down or we can speak with you away from the front desk.
What is a "Care Navigator"
Care Navigators can play a crucial role in helping people to get the right support, at the right time to help manage a wide range of needs. This may include support with long-term conditions, help with finances and signposting to a range of statutory and voluntary sector services.
This is a new, easy to use and convenient service we are offering at the practice.
You can access the service 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, 365 days of the year. Start an online consultation now by clicking this link

Emergency Walk-in Clinic
We are one of the few GP practices that offer our registered patients an Emergency Walk-in Clinic
We offer the walk-in service every Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Should you require urgent medical review you can come to the surgery on these days from 08:30. These sessions are for issues that cannot wait and other non-urgent queries, such as MED3 and admin requests, should be requested in an online consultation, by clicking this link
Patients are usually seen in arrival order; however, we may need to assess patients in line with their medical need. We do not know how many patients will attend on any given walk-in session so advise to attend as early as possible to ensure that demand does not exceed the resources we have available on any given session. Our trained, reception Care Navigators will ask you to give the reason for your attendance to assist with booking you in with the right service and clinician to best meet your needs.
Certain symptoms and conditions may be appropriate to be seen by a prescribing nurse, who has full GP support. This will be explained, offered and should your symptoms be more serious, a doctor will be available. This may also mean that patients are seen out of sequence and we thank you for your appreciation of this.
We ask you to be respectful of other patients waiting times, therefore please be mindful that this is an emergency only clinic and as such the following will not be dealt with during this clinic – sick note requests, repeat medication/prescription, referral/enquiries etc.
If you have a problem which you think could be resolved over the phone, let the receptionist know
- Please give clear details to the receptionist of your problem to ensure the telephone is the most appropriate way to deal with it
- Some problems cannot be dealt with by phone and you may be asked to attend the practice
- The doctor/nurse will need to phone you back so please ensure to give us, your up-to-date contact details and when you will be available to receive a call
Evening & Weekend Appointments (PCAS)
We are part of the Tameside & Glossop Primary Care Access Service (PCAS - was called 7 Day Access), evening and weekend service. Patients can attend a routine appointment, at evenings and weekends, at Ashton Primary Care Centre, Denton Ann Street, and other neighbourhood hubs. These are pre-bookable appointments, including blood tests, cervical screening and most other items you would expect during a routine appointment. Please request one of these appointments through reception. More information can be found by clicking here
Pre Bookable -Routine Appointments with a GP
Routine appointments with a doctor are available to book up to 2 weeks in advance and the appointment time is for 10 minutes. If you have more than one issue/problem that you would like to discuss with the Doctor please request a double appointment at reception.
GP Home Visits
All requests for same day home visits by a Doctor must be made before 11.30am. You will be asked by the reception team about the nature of your request. It is likely that the Doctor will call you to discuss and assess a Home Visit request prior to any visit taking place.
Appointments with our nursing team are available to book up to 4 weeks in advance. So that we can ensure you are seen by the most appropriate staff member our reception team will ask the type of appointment that you require (i.e. asthma /COPD review, contraception advice etc.)
Each week we have the equivalent of one whole day of surgery appointment time wasted. This time is wasted because many patients book appointments and then do not attend. These appointments should and could be used for other patients. If we have your correct mobile number you will receive a text reminder 48 hours prior to your appointment. Please ensure you contact us at the earliest opportunity if you are unable to keep your appointment.
